How to Setup a VPN on Android


This article will walk you through the process of how to setup a VPN on Android using OpenVPN or L2TP.

OpenVPN for Android (recommended)

  1. Install OpenVPN for Android on your device
  2. Using your browser, download the OVPN config file for the server(s) you want to use from our VPN Servers page
  3. Open OpenVPN for Android and tap the folder icon in the top right
  4. Browse to your Downloads folder and select the OVPN config file you downloaded by tapping on it and then tapping select
  5. Tap the save icon in the bottom right
  6. Click on the new profile
  7. Enter your Username and VPN password and tap OK
  8. You are now connected to the VPN

To disconnect click on the profile again.

OpenVPN for Android is also available on F-Droid 

L2TP

  1. Go to System Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> VPN
  2. Tap Add VPN
  3. Enter the Following :

    Name : MacSentry VPN
    Type : L2TP/IPSec PSK
    Server : (the VPN server you wish to connect to eg: ams01.macsentry.com)
    L2TP Secret : macsentry

    Tap Save

  4. Tap MacSentry VPN
  5. Enter your username and password and tap Save Account Information
