On what “Battleforthenet” are calling the “July 12th day of action”, some of the biggest companies and websites are teaming up to spread the message that Net Neutrality will soon be destroyed in the United States.
Websites will be using a number of methods to raise awareness for the Net Neutrality issue, one such example is the use of alerts that are made to look like messages from your ISP. Another example is the use of banner ads and even push notifications to smart devices.
Websites such as Amazon, Twitter, Netflix, Reddit, and many more are taking part in raising awareness.
The first deadline for comments about the new changes to Net Neutrality are to be made on the 17th of July, that is why so many are making their voices heard now, so that those that get to put their opinions forward understand the unrest this is causing not just to individuals but to big companies too.
If the USA wants any chance of keeping Net Neutrality as a law to follow and not just a guideline it is vitally important that the people make sure they make their voices heard and thankfully this kind of rallying from a central party is exactly what the campaign needed.
If Net Neutrality was to cease to exist in the United States, many services could stand to be affected. Not only that, customers can look to pay a lot more just to access the websites they do currently. Big internet companies stand to lose a lot too, ISPs can easily decide which services they feel can be suffocated out of the market by simply blocking them or by asking a huge fee for access.
This is the very real future for the United States, Net Neutrality was introduced as a consumer protection tool, and now that it is being removed, the internet in the United States may never be the same again. It’s not hyperbole to say that either, to remove such a vital law means a wild west situation for both American ISPs and their customers.
